In 1976, Dr. Gerson founded the Point Breeze Veterinary Clinic as a family veterinary practice, providing care primarily for cats and dogs. He is a 1975 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine, and a past president of its Alumni Society, which has also awarded Larry their Award of Merit. After serving as President of the Western Pennsylvania Veterinary Medical Association, he became the Trustee from Western Pennsylvania to the Pennsylvania Veterinary Medical Association for 12 years.  At the state level, he has served on the executive board of the Pennsylvania Veterinary Medical Association, even serving as its president.  They named him “Veterinarian of the Year” in 1985, as well as honoring him with their Distinguished Veterinary Service Award and their Special Merit Award.

Additionally, from 2005 to 2014 Dr. Gerson served on the Pennsylvania State Veterinary Licensing Board, which included a position as Vice Chairman of the State Veterinary Board. He currently serves as the chair of the PA Veterinary Foundation, and is the president of AAARF - the Allegheny Abused Animal Relief Fund.  AAARF strives to raise funding to help abused and neglected pets in Allegheny County.  He also has been a frequent guest on both radio and television pet talk shows, and has been frequently quoted in both newspaper and magazine articles. In addition to his veterinary practice, Dr. Gerson's interests include sailing, scuba diving, bicycling, skiing, and gardening. He resides in Pittsburgh's East End with his wife and two dogs.
